Shapur – the original story

This is the first story I ever wrote. It’s the one that eventually inspired me to write and post the other stories featured on this blog. It also created the basis for the world of Shapur.

Village in the Trees

Right here in the palace were several huge trees. No, not that big. Those trees are tiny compared to these. Scattered under the trees were many houses connected by wandering paths. The ground was covered with a bewildering array of plants, grasses, and flowers, and a variety of domesticated animals roamed the landscape.

After they finished eating, The King looked at Shapur and said, “I have some things to attend to. It is a beautiful day out, so why don’t you go outside and explore the land around the palace?”
“Ok,” replied Shapur. Since he had already eaten, he didn’t have anything else to do, and exploring sounded fun.

Journey – world 1

… the prince promptly collapsed from fatigue, starvation, and exhaustion. He had pushed his body past its limits, and now the body was calling in the debt. … instead of staring glassily into the distance, his eyes were focused and began to look around at his surroundings. He was understandably disoriented. Journey

First Feast – world 1

The cheery sound of voices and mouth-watering scents reached him long before he arrived. He increased his pace in anticipation, but upon reaching the door, he stopped dead in his tracks. The banquet hall completely overwhelmed his senses.

Caught!

Hardened feet beat the ground; their rhythm added to the sound of the small boy’s already labored breathing and pounding heart. Confused shouts sounded out from somewhere behind him, causing a spike of panic. He pushed himself to run faster, but already his strength was giving out.
